The Possible Cure for America’s Mental Health Problems – Go back to the 1950s and 1960s and long before, North Dakota might have the answer! The Hospital for the Insane, later known as the North Dakota State Hospital, it was a full town in Jamestown, ND It had a large dairy with premium dairy cows, a huge garden with a cannery for food, softball fields and their own dentists and doctors with a full staff 24/7. It was a place for the mentally challenged and very dangerous people. All received good day and night care for their needs.
North Dakota was perhaps far ahead of the rest of the country. In addition, we also have a state-owned bank and factory — a
leader of yesterday and today.
We could extend the public hospital to the needs of this mental health problem to meet the needs of today. The buildings were full at the time. Community group homes for the mentally handicapped are good for some, but today there are more serious mental problems and more need for these services. Yes, the state and federal government will need to step up and support it like we do for school and college grants. Congress and
state legislators need to step in and have this issue addressed.
Nationwide, existing nursing and retirement homes converted into short- and long-term mental health centers. Building new up-to-date retirement homes for today’s needs.
A gun, a knife, a car, a tractor never killed anyone – people kill! The government is looking in the wrong place to solve the
problem – people – help them or lock them up!
Also, we have the opportunity in North Dakota to do the right thing, invest in our Legacy Fund where we are successful in North Dakota. Bill #1425
passed two years ago – the state owns land along Interstate 94 and Highway 281 – Jamestown, invest in yourself – develop it. A great tourist stopover, Bison World! This will help the region and towns along the way to Medora and the new Roosevelt Library, the Minot State Fair, Fargo, Bismarck and all the small towns in between. Tourism is the third largest industry in North Dakota, let’s not help Russia, China, Africa and other countries.
Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer, Rep. Kelly Armstrong – state officials and lawmakers – are you willing to invest money in our state to help people who vote and pay taxes? We need your help now!
