Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum of the United Arab Emirates on Saturday inaugurated Gamers Galaxy, Pakistan’s largest e-sports festival with a grand prize of Rs 20,000,000, presented by Mountain Dew and organized by Galaxy Racer.

President Dr Arif Alvi virtually graced the occasion with his presence at the Pak-China Friendship Center in Islamabad. The all-inclusive e-sports festival runs until Sunday January 9, 2022.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, STZA President Amir Hashmi welcomed Galaxy Racer to Pakistan and appreciated the speed at which investments were transferred to Pakistan. While M-Group Managing Director Naveed Asghar has pledged that M-Group and its customers will support Galaxy Racer initiatives and has taken it upon himself to bring more business to the industry.

Addressing the event, CEO and Country Galaxy Racer Partner Fakhr Alam thanked the support from the sponsors, Group M and Ten Sports and made 2 major announcements. Galaxy Racer is launching Pakistan’s first professional esports league called “Supreme Galactic League”, which will feature eight teams, two of which it has told the public are already on. The second announcement was for a national inter-school and college sports championship called “Galaxy Scholars”.

Addressing the assembly, Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum thanked President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan. He announced that esports academies would be created and that local players would participate in international tournaments through Galaxy Racer.

The opening ceremony was also attended by the Pakistani Prime Minister’s National Security Advisor, Moeed W. Yusuf; Senator Faisal Javed Khan; Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari; Chariman for the Special Technology Zone Authority Amer Hashmi, as well as a large number of game enthusiasts.

Day one of the event exceeded highest expectations as visitors enjoyed a full range of activities and tournaments that include some of the most popular game titles on console, PC and mobile, meetups and panels with the country’s most popular content creators, plus action-packed live entertainment, alongside fun LOL activations for all the little ones.

Large numbers of visitors gathered in the main arena to witness intense battles in PUBG Mobile Gamers Galaxy Tournaments, Valorant, HER Galaxy Valorant Spike Rush 2v2 (Pakistan’s first ever women’s esports tournament), and FIFA 22 and Tekken community tournaments. The finalists will compete for a prize pool of Rs20 million.

Popular influencers Taimoor “Mooroo” Salauddin, Khaqan Shahnawaz, Junaid Akram “Ganjiswag” and video game star Brownlad were also on hand to meet and greet delighted fans, while offering their best advice and expertise at panel discussions. Gaming enthusiasts also had the chance to grab the exclusive Mountain Dew Gamers Galaxy pop culture merchandise as well as other gaming memorabilia.
